Grilling Season in Full Swing
If grilling is part of your Labor Day plan, you’ll find top quality meats and seafood at the market. Stop by Highland Spring Farm and Weber Pastures for grass-fed beef and South Padre Seafood for wild caught seafood from North American waters. Visit the vendors for great cooking suggestions. For perfectly grilled steaks or roasts, Kevin Oppermann of Highland Spring Farm offers some tips.
Steaks Use a hot grill to sear meat on each side. Lower the temperature to medium heat then grill to desired doneness. You’ll get the best flavor when steaks are cooked to medium or medium rare.
Roasts Sear meat, then slow cook at 200 to 225 degrees for 3 to 4 hours for a 3lb. roast.
50% Folk is this week’s live entertainment. This four-piece band out of central Wisconsin plays a range of traditional music including folk, country, bluegrass, blues and gospel. They mix strong vocals with acoustic instruments including washtub and electric bass.
