October 2 ~ This Week

‘Tis the season for comfort food and the Monona Farmers’ Market has everything you need to make your favorite soups and stews. Get the crock-pot out and prepare everything ahead of time for a simple family meal or a gathering of friends.

If you are hosting a soup party, try these tips. Choose at least two soups to serve. A good combination is one creamy soup like butternut squash or potato and one hearty soup, like a simple minestrone or vegetable. Toppings are a great addition to soup. Consider crunchy options like croutons, toasted nuts or pumpkin seeds. Set out bowls of sour cream, shredded cheese, chopped green onions and parsley. Serve a good artisan bread to sop up soup in the bowl.  Sourdough can be a classic, especially with creamy soups. A good crusty, baguette goes with everything. Finally, prepare a little something sweet. Apple crisp or some fresh fruit with a wedge of brownie is a nice finish to the meal.

Singer/songwriter Liv Rather will entertain at the market. Her sound combines a little Norah Jones with the Runaways. She is an artist to be watched for sure…

Mayor Bob Miller welcomes you at his picnic table office from 10:00 to noon. He’ll broadcast live on Monona’s local radio station, WVMO at 98.7 starting at 11:00.

If you are interested in promoting local, accessible foods, the Monona Farmers’ Market has volunteer openings. Talk to the Market Manager at the market, or contact Suzanne Wade,
608-334-4517.

The Monona Farmers’ Market is honored to be a candidate for the 2016 Best of Madison Awards.  You can show your support for the market by casting your vote online.
