October 23 ~ This Week
This Week at the Market
As the Monona Farmers’ Market nears the end of an outstanding 13th season of great local food, entertainment and community connections, it’s time to give thanks. The success of the market results from the generosity and hard work of many. The market couldn’t exist without the financial support of the sponsors. Thanks to Ace Lakeside, Chad’s Design Build, Four Lakes Veterinary Clinic, Heritage Senior Living, Monona Community Festival, Monona State Bank, The Noot Team – Stark Co. Realtors, Madison Gas and Electric, Bank Mutual, Capitol Travel Service, Dane County Family Acupuncture, Frost Woods I & II, Homburg Equipment Inc., Ken’s Meats & Deli, Klinke Cleaners, Madison Monona Lioness Club, Mayor Bob, Monona East Side Business Alliance, Monona Grove Business Men’s Association, Monona Motors, Susan C. Manning, Consultant, The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy, Walmart, WPS and Willy Street Coop.
Behind the scenes, the volunteer steering committee tirelessly organizes, promotes and fund raises. Stacy Iruk has been at the helm as Market Manager. As she steps down and Kourtni Barnes takes the management reins, Stacy will stay involved as a steering committee volunteer. Throughout the season, the volunteer Master Gardeners contribute their time and expert advice, Mayor Bob Miller connects with the community at his picnic table office and entertainers share their talents. Of course, the commitment of top quality vendors and the patronage of an estimated 1,500 to 2,000 weekly market shoppers make the market a success – a heartfelt thanks to all.
This week’s entertainment is BIRDS, BIRDS, BIRDS, a folksy, bluegrassy and fun folk duo. Their performances showcase original songwriting embracing acoustic instrumentation. Enjoy the music as you stock up on fall produce and locally made items.
Mark your calendars. Sunday, October 30, is the Halloween Market, the last market of the season. Enjoy trick or treating with the vendors.
Mayor Bob Miller will be at his picnic table office. He’ll broadcast live on Monona’s local radio station, WVMO at 98.7 starting at 11:00.
