This Week at the Market

Savor the flavors of fall. There is a bumper crop of fall fruits and vegetables with great flavors and textures at the market. Brussels sprouts, beets, broccoli, eggplant, winter squash, beans and a variety of potatoes and root vegetables are all in season. Stella’s Bakery has pumpkin bread, scones, muffins and apple pie. Stop by Green’s Pleasant Spring Orchard for fresh pressed apple cider, apples or applesauce. It’s the perfect time to cook up some of your favorite comfort food recipes.

Listen to harp music by Matt DeBlass, a folk musician based in Madison, Wisconsin.  He specializes in traditional music on harp, mandolin and other acoustic instruments.

A big thanks goes to the Master Gardener volunteers as they wrap up their season of sharing expert horticultural advice. Each year, these volunteers are at the market May through September to answer questions and advise. Stop by to share your appreciation and to get some final tips on how to prepare your yard and garden for fall.

If you are interested in volunteer opportunities, the Monona Farmers’ Market is looking for people interested in promoting local, accessible foods to join our board of directors. Mayor Bob Miller will be at his picnic table office from 10:00 am to noon and will broadcast live on Monona’s local radio station, WVMO at 98.7 FM starting at 11:00.
