This Week at the Market
Back by popular demand, children’s author, songwriter and part-time chicken dancer, John Duggleby returns to the Monona Farmers’ Market on Sunday, July 9. Bring the whole family to enjoy music from the past 150 years, including some of Duggleby’s own compositions.
The market has everything you need for easy, healthy and delicious summer cooking and eating. Put seafood from South Padre Seafoods or meat from Highland Spring Farm on the grill. Select from a wide assortment of vegetables for roasting. Enjoy a bowl of fresh raspberries for dessert. They’re delicious plain or on top of ice cream!
To roast vegetables successfully, you need to know the right temperature for cooking them. Dense, low-moisture vegetables like roots, cauliflower, and squashes need lower heat and more time in the over than vegetables like zucchini, eggplant or mushrooms with more moisture. To prepare, simply toss your vegetable with olive oil or try Platteville Sunflower oil. Then season with salt, pepper and your favorite herbs. Place on a baking sheet, put in a preheated 425 degree oven (adjust heat according to vegetables) and roast for 30 minutes to an hour. Stir once or twice to during roasting for even cooking and browning.
EBT is accepted. The Double Dollars Program is available.
The market, located at Ahuska Park, 400 East Broadway, is open every Sunday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm through October 29th.
