This Week at the Market
The Monona Farmers’ Market is a great place to pause and remember our veterans. The Dane County Veterans’ Memorial is right next to the market at Ahuska Park. The impressive granite, star shaped memorial measuring 5’ tall and 22’ wide signifies the stars families hung on their windows during WWII. Radiating from the star are black granite panels listing the names of 636 people from Dane County known to have died in combat since WWI.
Live entertainment is Mourning Dove, a delightful vocal and acoustic duet. Musicians/songwriters Lisa Stubbs and Neil Brook blend contemporary Americana with 1960’s early 70’s folk.
If you’re grilling out, stop by Highland Spring Farm for grass fed Scottish Highland beef. Their Bavette and sirloin steaks are great on the grill. If seafood is on the menu, South Padre Seafood has an excellent selection of shrimp and seafood wild caught in American waters. Both vendors offer grilling advice as well. For side dishes, desserts and décor, there’s a wide selection of spring produce, baked goods and fresh flowers.
Mayor Bob Miller will be at his picnic table office from 10:00 to noon. He welcomes visitors. You can also tune in to his live broadcast on Monona’s local radio station, WVMO – 98.7, from 11:00 am to noon.
The Monona Farmers’ Market is located at Ahuska Park, 400 E. Broadway. It’s open from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm every Sunday through October 30.
